This week, federal agents conducted searches at the homes of Deputy Mayor Phil Banks, Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, and Schools Chancellor David Banks. The IRS has joined the investigation into the NYPD’s nightclub enforcement practices, and the police commissioner’s phone has been seized.
In a nut shell, one of the investigations is examining whether James Caban, the brother of Police Commissioner Edward Caban, received payments from bars and clubs in Midtown and Queens to serve as a police liaison. The inquiry is also exploring whether these establishments received preferential treatment from local precincts. Additionally, investigators are looking into whether officers were pressured to impose stricter enforcement on clubs that did not engage with Caban or if promotions were offered to officers who cooperated with this potential scheme, according to sources.
Sounds a bit like mafia tactics to me.
